You hear so much about how to protect your skin from the sun, but what about your lips? Dutifully slathering on the sun block can still miss one very vunerable part of your body. And here is the scare message, skin cancer occurs on the lips quite frequently, particularly because it’s a spot that often goes without protection.
So, let’s get equipped with lip SPF. There are a million options out there. My niece introduced me to Maybelline’s BabyLips, a smooth balm with several tints and a respectable SPF 20. It retails for about $4.
For a little better protection, I like EltaMD’s UV Lip Balm which is SPF 31 (about $9). It includes zinc oxide as it’s active ingredient, which is our best UV blocker. I’m a fan.
If you prefer to spend $22 for a lip balm, and reallllly good one, then look at Shiseido Sun Protection Lip Treatment SPF 36. This stuff is smooth as silk and provides excellent sun protection including titanium dioxide. If you never lose anything, you might be responsible enough to invest in this.
Remember, if your lips feel dry, tender or cracked it might be a sign of sunburn. Your beach bag, purse, car and backdoor should all be equipped with a protective lip balm of your choice. It’s small, so you there can be no complaints about schlepping one more thing around….
